Some say the world is a big place...
A few wks ago I reflected on this idea when I was traveling for work and used an ATM that offered multiple currency options. As I stood there before the machine, I thought about this concept and could remember when travelers cheques were the only way to go.
Impatience set in behind me, so I refocused my attention to the screen. Quick math, where were you when I needed you! Then in a few seconds, it was done...no 'all' button or I surely would have chosen that option instead just for fun. Colorful currency in hand, I moved on.
On the same travels, I sent my son his first text message - from Geneva. Four hours later he sent me back a text message. The world became a little smaller (with a little OMG I am texting my son - I feel old!) mixed in.
A few days Later, I'm standing on a street corner in London, questionably remembering which way to look for oncomings. My son sends me a text. I smile and text him back. The world became a little bit smaller still.
I'm standing in the hotel hallway, politely trying to ask for something in French. The housekeeping staff member smiled. She looked at me unwaveringly but without agreement. Then I realized, I have forgotten where I am, and this kind soul has no idea what I'm talking about...I'm using the wrong language. I am in England. The world became the smallest yet.
