Paddington Station

Ah. the smell of Paddington and some veggie curry to go with it...

Small World Afterall

Some say the world is a big place...

A few wks ago I reflected on this idea when I was traveling for work and used an ATM that offered multiple currency options. As I stood there before the machine, I thought about this concept and could remember when travelers cheques were the only way to go.

Impatience set in behind me, so I refocused my attention to the screen. Quick math, where were you when I needed you!  Then in a few seconds, it was done...no 'all' button or I surely would have chosen that option instead just for fun.  Colorful currency in hand, I moved on.

On the same travels, I sent my son his first text message - from Geneva. Four hours later he sent me back a text message.  The world became a little smaller (with a little OMG I am texting my son - I feel old!) mixed in.

A few days Later, I'm standing on a street corner in London, questionably remembering which way to look for oncomings. My son sends me a text. I smile and text him back. The world became a little bit smaller still.

I'm standing in the hotel hallway, politely trying to ask for something in French. The housekeeping staff member smiled. She looked at me unwaveringly but without agreement. Then I realized, I have forgotten where I am, and this kind soul has no idea what I'm talking about...I'm using the wrong language. I am in England.  The world became the smallest yet.

Sparkle

There is a certain departure time, when the sky is still lit, just before dusk. Street Lights begin to turn on, almost flicker in sequence if you watch closely.  To me, they look like sparklers from above.

Just as quickly, we break the clouds. Poof.  They are gone.  It is the simplest things that keep the idea of magic alive.

Boots

Across 4 different states in two days, and the view from the air is, well, very white. So much snow in so many places, just resting there.  Its serene and wonderful.  Happy Holidays dear friends.  Here's another reflection on a random Thursday...

Boots. Big boots, small boots, fuzzy boots, slick boots, and boots that don’t even look like boots.  Boots with shorts, boots with dresses, jeans, slacks, and boots while carrying a dog.  In case you were wondering, boots are definitely back.  And today it would seem, permed hair is also making an appearance in multitude. Chicago, DC, St. Louis, Raleigh, New York; it doesn’t much matter where I’ve been recently; the boots and the hair are there.  Tapered jeans and permed hair.  Now all I need is a Members Only jacket.  Oh and maybe some boots.
